Nukoko is entirely staffed by a vibrant and dynamic team of volunteers who are all working towards the same goals: A world without poverty. Our volunteers support the organization in many capacities and have all contributed time and effort to sustaining our contributions to funding the primary education of over 600 girls in Togo.
Meet our Volunteers
Ashley
Ashley started volunteering for Nukoko as a research assistant in March 2011. Currently, she is delving into the wide world of volunteer management, and is researching the best ways to run and sustain a virtual volunteer organization. She recently completed an Honours BA in Psychology , and has been working and volunteering in the community ever since. She has volunteered on a crisis hotline for the past two years, and has worked in various research labs and clinics. Presently she works part-time as a clerical and data entry assistant at a social research company based out of York University. Aside from her busy work and volunteer life, she spends most of her time caring for her four cats and one very wild Australian Shepherd.
Brooke
Brooke is eager to share Nukoko’s achievements and stories with the public as the Newsletter Editor. She has worked with numerous environmental and humanitarian organizations, primarily in communications and event management functions. An avid traveller, Brooke has lived in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and of course Canada. She is currently living in Australia.
Carlos
Carlos is currently conducting research on health literacy and planning for the first stages of one of Nukoko’s new campaigns. As a recent graduate from degrees in Psychology and Health Policy, Carlos has worked with newcomer youth in Toronto, engaging in planning and evaluation of youth mentoring and newcomer education programs. Carlos currently works at a Performing Arts Centre and is not ashamed to hide his profound love for soccer.
Cynthia
Cynthia is currently the Education 4 All Sponsor Liaison for Nukoko, and also a student at Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School. She joined Nukoko to help spread awareness about the importance of education. Besides Nukoko, she is also involved with environmental groups in her community. Some of her hobbies include ice skating, photography and sleeping.
Jenn
Jenn started with Nukoko as the coordinator for the Education 4 All program, and to help facilitate communication with Nukoko’s partner organization REJED. After finishing a degree in Political Science and French Translation, she realized that working in development was where her real passion was- so off she went to India to work with primary school children and a local women’s group to learn firsthand about the needs and impact of education in developing areas. Although originally from Alberta, she is currently living in Vancouver and realizing that she actually misses the snow…
Jennifer
Jennifer is currently helping to coordinate Nukoko’s volunteer program and is in the process of developing a volunteer orientation program to help engage volunteers across the organization. Following finishing her degree in International Development Studies, she travelled to Chile where she worked with local children and learned firsthand the value of a primary education. She currently works full-time in educational strategy at the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and she is slightly embarrassed to admit she is addicted to watching the Travel Network.
Kanika
Kanika started Nukoko as a small project with a local youth organization in west Africa in 2007. As the Director she keeps herself busy ensuring that Nukoko’s objectives are being achieved, through supporting and interacting with the organization’s supporters, partners and its most valuable resource – its volunteers. Kanika has a vision of a world where everyone is entitled to the same opportunities and sees endless possibilities for this organization to grow. Travelling is her passion and she has the personal goal of visiting every country in the world.
Lily
Lily is currently a member of the Communications Team and has been helping to start Nukoko’s social media campaign with the aim to help raise awareness of both the goals of the organization and the organization itself. She believes that education is important and that all youth should have a chance to have an education and pursue their dreams. She volunteers both within her community and with national and international organizations. She is currently entering into her sophomore year of high school and loves sports of all kinds.
Danielle
Danielle is Nukoko’s website administrator and designer.
