“For many girls, education is the only way to end poverty and discrimination. It is also a determinant of how much influence a woman can have in household decision-making.” UNICEF

Help develop a country by sending a child to school

According to a 2006 national survey, it is estimated that 66 percent of females in Togo are illiterate. By sponsoring a child, you can help to eliminate this statistic. Aside from traditional education, students learn about hygiene and life skills (such as family planning). Furthermore, education for young girls will also contribute towards the eradication of child trafficking and forced-labour. It has been shown that once a girl is educated, she is more likely to send her own children to school – helping to end one of the major cycles of poverty.

The Education 4 All initiative works towards achieving two of the Millennium Development A family spends time together before leaving for work and schoolGoals set out by the United Nations :

  • Achieve universal primary education
  • Promote gender equality and empower women

This is a long-term solution that will ensure sustained development worldwide. Our Education 4 All program works in villages and rural areas where female enrollment rates are at the lowest. By paying school fees and providing school supplies, girls are encouraged to attend school and motivated to succeed academically, as many parents are not able to afford these expenses.

Your donation to a young girl will not only make a difference in her life, but hopefully also in yours!

Program details:

Cost: $30 CND/year

Child receives:

  • School fees paid for the entire school year
  • School supplies: school books, notebooks, pens, crayons, calculator and ruler

At the end of the school year, all school supplies will be donated back to the program for redistribution the following year.

As a sponsor, you will receive:

  • Project updates and status reports
  • Assurance that funds are well-managed

Our program abroad is managed by a grassroots organization based in Lomé, Togo: Le Réseau des Jeunes pour le Développement (REJED). REJED is a not-for-profit organization run entirely by student volunteers, much like Nukoko, with the interest of developing their country from within. By working with a local volunteer organization, we eliminate unnecessary overhead administration costs, and ensure that basic needs are met in a way that is best suited to the country’s traditions and cultural practices.

The village of Namaré and its surrounding area, in the northwest of Togo, will be the focus of our support for the fifth year running.
